The Dependency Quiz was developed by Dr. Karl Fagerström,
who is one of the world's leading authorities on the effects of cigarette smoking.
He earned his PhD with a dissertation on nicotine-dependence and smoking cessation and
he is a founding member of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT).
Dr Fagerström's main research contributions have been in the fields of behavioral medicine,
tobacco, and nicotine, and he has over 150 peer-reviewed publications. He has contributed to nicotine-replacement
therapy developments such as Nicorette gum, the patch, spray, and inhaler. In 1999, he was awarded the World Health
Organization (WHO) Medal for outstanding work in tobacco control, and in 2012, the SRNT Ferno Award for outstanding clinical contributions.
