A study by Scottish researchers shows smoking causes hundreds of thousands more deaths each year worldwide than previously thought. Specifically, they found smokers have a much greater chance of dying from cancers of the colon, rectum and prostate, as well as from lymphatic leukemia. These illnesses cause 930,000 deaths worldwide each year, in
addition to the more than 5 million annual smoking-related deaths previously estimated by the World Health Organisation.
