Counseling Helps PAD Patients Quit Smoking

A randomized trial showed intensive counseling helped more patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) quit smoking than those with usual care. Smoking is the single most important risk factor for the development of atherosclerotic PAD, which affects up to 10 percent of American adults over 40.
