Researchers at the Georgetown University Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center report that examining the blood "metabolomics" profile of smokers, immediately after they have smoked a cigarette, showed activation of pathways involved in cell death, inflammation, and other forms of systemic damage. This research presents an actual picture of what is happening in smokers' bodies and the harm that is being produced.
