Researchers in Finland found that people who smoked more than two packs of cigarettes daily in their midlife years more than doubled their risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia two decades later. There was an elevated risk of dementia overall and also of each subtype, Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia, compared with nonsmokers.
