The Food and Drug Administration's discussions regarding a potential ban on menthol cigarettes have ignited a debate within the African American community and among public health groups divided about how to help black consumers with a heavy dependence on menthol cigarettes. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) joined ranks with the American Legacy Foundation in calling for a ban on menthol as a cigarette flavoring.
