A study conducted in New Zealand determined that eliminating appealing and enticing logos and colors from cigarette packages significantly reduced their appeal among adolescents. The majority of respondents reported that neither they nor their friends would want to smoke cigarettes from plain packages, contradicting the tobacco industry’s assertion that packaging would have no effect on smoking rates.
