Secondhand Smoke Leaves Kids Prone to Severe Infections

Researchers in Hong Kong followed 7,402 children born in April and May of 1997 (representing almost 80 percent of all children born in Hong Kong during that time period) until they turned 8 in 2005. In addition to developing asthma and respiratory infections, children in households where someone smokes are more likely to catch a whole range of severe infections, including meningococcal disease.
