The Global Youth Tobacco Survey (1999–2008) indicates that 7 percent of girls surveyed smoke cigarettes. Cigarette use among girls is higher than 30 percent in 7 of the countries surveyed, and in all regions, susceptibility to initiate smoking is higher than current smoking rates among girls.
