A Maryland firm is in the third phase of testing an experimental vaccine which, unlike a nicotine step-down or replacement product, stimulates a body’s resistance to nicotine. The vaccine triggers the production of antibodies that then cling to the nicotine molecule, thereby making it too big to cross the blood-brain barrier, where it would trigger an addictive rush.
