The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will regulate tobacco products beginning June 22, 2010, at which time the agency will restrict cigarette vending to locations for patrons 18 and over. This is part of a broader plan designed to limit tobacco sales to youth nationwide. The new rules prohibit the sale of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products through vending machines and self-service displays, except in facilities where individuals under the age of 18 are not present or permitted at any time.
