A new study shows that blood vessel function rapidly improves after smokers quit, leading to a reduced risk of heart disease and heart attack. Before and one year after study participants stopped smoking, doctors used ultrasound to measure their flow-mediated dilation, a way to guage the health of the brachial artery, the main artery of the upper arm.
