A Canadian study found that women exposed to secondhand smoke had increased risks of giving birth to infants with lower birth weight, birth defects, longer length, and trends toward smaller head circumference. Public health advocates point to this new study as showing that babies are not just at risk if their mother smokes but also if their mother is exposed to the smoke of others at work, home, or public places.
