University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine researchers report that smokers who wore nicotine patches for six months, instead of the recommended two, were more likely to quit smoking and had an easier time recovering from an occasional relapse. Extending the duration of therapy to 24 weeks was also significantly more effective in helping smokers quit, compared to the standard duration of eight week.
