Only the ninth umpire to be elected into the Hall of Fame, Doug Harvey developed a stubborn chewing tobacco habit during his career. He has undergone a barrage of radiation treatments, a feeding tube, a seizure, and a stroke following a diagnosis of tobacco-related oral cancer in 1997. Now Doug Harvey and his wife are taking their anti-tobacco message about the dangers of smokeless tobacco to players, coaches, managers, and Little Leaguers.
