Young smokers can have reduced cardiovascular function and arterial stiffness even if they smoke only a few cigarettes per day. Researchers from the McGill University Health Center (Canada) found that just one cigarette stiffens the arteries of young adults by 25 percent, and arterial stiffness increases risk for heart disease and stroke.
