Researchers at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health say that, despite recent declines in U.S. cigarette use, nicotine dependence remains steady among adults and has increased among some groups. The number of people who smoke has declined, but the people who quit smoking were more likely occasional smokers, not heavy smokers.
