Cigarettes and and smokeless tobacco products and excessive consumption of alcohol increase a person's chances of head and neck cancer Some studies show that together smoking and alcohol use increases risk by more than 30 times. Recently, head and neck cancer specialists have noticed that cancers of the tonsils and back of the throat are increasingly linked to human papilloma virus, the same virus responsible for nearly all cervical cancers.
