Rick Bender, also known as "the man without a face," travels to high schools throughout the country to implore young people to stop using smokeless tobacco. Bender's situation inspires him to advocate for awareness. In 1989 a festering sore on his tongue was the first sign of oral cancer. That was followed by four surgeries, the removal of a third of his tongue and half of his jaw, and nerve damage that partially destroyed his arm motion.
