Thursday, November 20, 2008 is the 33rd annual Great American Smokeout, when the American Cancer Society asks smokers to kick the habit for one day. Thomas J. Glynn, director of cancer science and trends at the American Cancer Society, urges all smokers to give up cigarettes for one day, because "A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step, and your single step begins on the day of the Great American Smokeout."
