Smoking May Harm the Egg, Embryo

In research likely to have implications for human pregnancies, U.S. and Chinese scientists found that cigarette smoke damages mouse eggs and embryos. Mice exposed to cigarette smoke or its condensate were more likely to show increased fragmentation and delayed fertilization, resulting in impaired embryo development.
