Researchers at the University of Southern Denmark in Copenhagen studied women trying to quit smoking during pregnancy. They determined that using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) such as nicotine patches or nicotine gum does not increase the likelihood of a stillbirth. By comparison, smokers who did not use NRT during pregnancy had a 46 percent higher risk of having a stillbirth.
