Researchers in Finland suggest that male smokers have a shorter life expectancy than nonsmokers and experience a poorer quality of life. Heavy smokers experienced especially detrimental effects. Males who smoked more than 20 cigarettes per day lost about 10 years of their life expectancies. Those smokers who survived experienced a significant decline in their quality of life.
