The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Expert Panel
on the diagnosis and management of asthma recently published new guidelines for the management of asthma. These guidelines point to secondhand smoke as a serious and major trigger for asthma. Eliminating secondhand smoke exposure by enacting smoke-free policies can decrease emergency department visits for asthma.
