Smoking May Raise Disease Risk by Increasing Hormones

New research finds that older women who smoke have higher levels of sex hormones than nonsmoking women, which may increase their risk for breast cancer, diabetes, and other diseases. Postmenopausal women who smoked had much higher levels of both male and female sex hormones than women who had never smoked or women who had given up cigarette smoking.
