Smokers Struck by Influenza Face Higher Mortality Rates

Researchers at Yale Universtiy have discovered why viral infections have more severe consequences in smokers and why, for example, smokers with influenza are more likely than nonsmokers to die from the flu. Cigarette smoke and compounds that mimic viral components caused more severe airway damage in experiments with mice.
