A study of 50,000 pregnancies in the U.K. found that women who stopped smoking as late as when pregnancy was confirmed dramatically boosted the health of their babies. Those babies, born to women who quit at the time of conception or when the pregnancy was confirmed, had higher birth weight than those born to smokers and reached the same gestational age and head circumference as those born to women who had never smoked.
