Only about one in five people with bladder cancer are aware that smoking is a risk factor for the disease. Researchers from the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center report that smoking is the cause of up to half of all cases of bladder cancer. The risk declines 40 percent within four years of quitting smoking.
