Smoking, Alcohol Up Knee Surgery Risks

Patients who smoke, misuse alcohol, fail to control their blood sugar levels, or even have a poor attitude before certain surgeries are at a doubled risk of experiencing post-operative complications. While former smokers were also at an increased risk for suffering a stroke, pneumonia, urinary tract infection, and pulmonary complications, the chance was much lower than current smokers.
