In the past, healthcare professionals worried that nicotine patches, gum, inhalers, and lozenges may be harmful to people who have suffered heart attacks, a group for whom it’s even more important to quit tobacco. However, a new study suggests that people discharged from the hospital following a heart attack or chest pains can safely use nicotine replacement products to help quit tobacco.
